Protection: Hand washing

  • The CDC recommends using sanitizers with 60-95% alcohol in healthcare settings. Unless hands are visibly soiled, an alcohol-based hand rub is preferred over soap and water due to evidence of better compliance compared to soap and water.
  • Hands should be washed with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after contact with any surface as well as before eating and using the restroom.
  • Staff positions that interface with attendees should wash their hands every 60 to 90 minutes.
